Tong ChurchYou are here: Home : Examples : Tong Church Tong Church just outside Wolverhampton in the West Midlands has, like many very old Churches a very rich and unique heritage. Known as ‘The little Westminster Abbey’ St Bartholomew, a 15 th Century building, has been voted a best Church in England, and has number of early tombs and some very impressive architecture including an original gilded ceiling in the Chapel.
Any sound system installation had to be well concealed, wires all hidden, and made safe in case of theft. The building is protected by a monitored state of the art alarm system. A discreet solution of high-level mounted speakers was used, which covers the entire Church from front to back to within a tolerance of 2dB’s. In lay terms, this means there is no noticeable effect of level wherever you are seated in the building. Modern radiomics have been used, together with automatic gain control. If any reading is delivered by a very soft voice, the AGC unit raises the system level to the matched level for articulate sound reinforcement. The job is done within milliseconds, quickly, and inaudibly. It can even control consonants for improved speech intelligibility.
Music is played through the system and formed part of the initial brief. Some Church sound systems tend to suffer in this area if low quality column speakers are used.
The high efficiency units in St Bartholomew’s offer, crystal clear CD sound, even if played at high level. The system has induction loop facility for the hard of hearing. |
